Speaking about Midst at Techpoint SME Clinic 2021

2021 started like most new years. I was excited about the possibilities, looking forward to all the wonderful things that the year would bring. I remember some of the things that occupied my mind in December 2020, a new career in marketing, finally getting married, more money etc.

I began the year with a focus on starting a career in marketing, I had read one or two books, followed a number of people in the space on Twitter and LinkedIn, considered taking a copywriting course, among other things that would help me achieve “marketing badassery” in 2021. Little did I know that the year would take a completely different turn for me.

And not too far into the year too. On February 1, 2021, my heart was broken into a thousand pieces, you already know the gist so I’ll not go too much into it. At the time, I felt broken but I knew that I’d feel better.

Nursing my heartbreak, I took a leap into entrepreneurship with Eventprime, with encouragement from Adewale. It felt like a good distraction from my broken heart and a solution to the growing urge to do something different.

I started working on Eventprime in March 2021. As you’d imagine, I had no idea what I was doing and everything was happening very fast. Before I knew what was happening, I was speaking to potential investors and making plans. Like an entrepreneur would.

If anyone had told me about a month prior that I’d delve into entrepreneurship, I’d argue with them. I had never thought of myself to be one and I was convinced that I wasn’t cut out to run a business.

But there I was, starting a startup. I struggled with self-confidence, I still do but more then than now. I was overwhelmed by everything that was happening and I felt that it wouldn’t work.

Well, Eventprime didn’t work. You know this gist. Then came Midst.

Adewale introduced me to Michael in May 2021, I believe. After I had spoken to Derek who had some interesting demands before he could work with me. We officially kicked off Midst in July 2021.

It’s been 6 months since then and I’m very grateful for all the ups and downs that came with building Midst. Building my self-confidence, learning more about the events industry, meeting new people, getting into the Future Females Business School, learning and unlearning. It’s been a rollercoaster of emotions but I’m so grateful to have gone through it all.

In 2021, I started Midst, we hired 3 people, one left, I became more open and adventurous, I had more fun, I had more sex, I went out more, I travelled to Rwanda, I made new connections, I discovered meditation, and I became a better person than I was in 2020.

In December 2021, I started a second startup called Dropp, a UAV delivery service, with Fabby. It’s still very early days, but I’m optimistic about the potential of the business and I’m very excited about it.

In 2021, we renovated our house after so many years, my sister moved out of her old house, my brother got a new job, my other brother got married.

In 2021, our lives changed for the better.

Overall, I’m grateful to God for keeping me, my family and friends alive to see the last day of 2021. I’m grateful for the growth we’ve all experienced, despite our pain. I’m grateful for the new path that God has paved for us. I’m grateful for everything we’ve achieved in 2021.

As we go into 2022, I look forward to a new dispensation for me and my people. 2022 is the year I get married to the real love of my life. 2022 is the year Midst and Dropp become successful businesses. 2022 is the year my family get the breakthrough we’ve been praying for. 2022 is the year all my friends win in all their endeavours. 2022 is our year of miracles and manifestation.

2022 is our year of wins. And I’m so excited to experience it all.

Cheers to an amazing new year!
